A woman was beaten to death reportedly by a youth at Fatulla upazila in Narayanganj district on Monday.
Police have detained the accused, Shanto, 24, for his alleged involvement in the killing.
The assault took place early Monday (November 4) at a rented residence in Gabtoli, under Fatulla Model Police Station.
The victim, Nilufa Begum, 55, was hailed from Nayabazar in Cumilla's Daudkandi upazila, lived alone in a rental home and worked in the cutting section of a local garment factory.
According to Nilufa's son, Nasir, his mother was cooking around 5:00 AM when she noticed Shanto, from Cumilla's Homna area, breaking the glass window with a stick. When Nilufa intervened, Shanto allegedly turned on her, attacking her head and body with the stick.
Her cries for help alerted neighbors, who quickly rushed her to Victoria General Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.
Fatulla Model Police Station officer-in-charge Shariful Islam confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind Shanto's actions.
Preliminary reports indicate Shanto exhibited erratic behavior, and police are investigating further to uncover the full circumstances of the attack, added the OC.
