A teen schoolgirl was hacked to death reportedly by unidentified assailants who broke into her home at Monohardi upazila in Narsingdi district on Monday.
The incident occurred around 3:45 PM on Monday in Chandonbari village near Monohardi Government College.
The victim was identified as Anika, 15, daughter of Shahajada Noor Alam from West Poradia in Belabo Upazila, was a tenth-grade student residing at her aunt's home to pursue her studies. Her aunt Papiya, 45, widow of late Sattar Master, was also injured in the attack.
Monohardi Police Station officer-in-charge Md Juwel Hossain confirmed the incident, adding that attackers entered the house, attacked Anika and Papiya, and fled. The attack led to Anika's immediate death on the spot. Hearing the aunt's cries for help, neighbors rushed in, but the assailants managed to escape.
Papiya was critically injured and was first taken to Monohardi Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College for better treatment.
Police recovered a blood-stained machete from the scene. Although investigations are underway, the motive and identities of the attackers remain unknown, added the OC.
