A head-on collision between a three-wheeler and a pickup truck at Rajapur upazila in Jhalakathi district on Monday, claimed the lives of two individuals and left five others injured.
The accident took place around 12:30 PM on Monday in front of Pingri Secondary School along the Jhalakathi-Pirojpur regional highway.
One of the deceased has been identified as Altaf Hossain, 50, son of Momin Fakir from Mehendiganj upazila, while the identity of the other victim remains unknown.
Rajapur Police Station officer-in-charge Md. Ismail Hossain confirmed the incident, adding, "The passenger-carrying CNG-run three-wheeler was traveling towards Rajapur from Barisal, when it collided with an oncoming pickup truck near Pingri. Two people died on the spot, and five sustained critical injuries."
The OC added that the bodies of the deceased have been sent to Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital for autopsy and the injured are receiving treatment at Rajapur Health Complex.
Legal actions are underway regarding the incident.
Abdul Khalek, Station Officer of Rajapur Fire Service and Civil Defense, said that the accident temporarily halted traffic on the Jhalakathi-Pirojpur regional highway for half an hour. The road was cleared and traffic restored with the help of army and police personnel.
