The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has set November 10 to hold its hearing on an appeal of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia that challenged High Court's 10 years' jail sentence in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
Khaleda Zia' lawyer Barrister Kaiser Kamal confirmed this on Monday.
Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Md Rezaul Haque on Sunday set the date after Khaleda's lawyer Kaiser Kamal prayed for that.
Khaleda Zia was sent to jail on February 8, 2018, after a special court in Dhaka sentenced her to five years in jail in connection with the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
Subsequently, a petition was filed by the ACC, following which the HC on October 30 increased the punishment to 10 years' imprisonment.
Meanwhile, the High Court on Sunday allowed the BNP Chairperson to prepare the
paper books of Zia Charitable Trust corruption case at her own cost for
moving the appeal that challenged her conviction and seven years' jail
sentence in the case.
