Six people drown in four districts

Six people including four minor children and a teenage boy drowned in separate incidents in four districts - Faridpur, Sherpur, Kushtia and Rajshahi, in three days.

BHANGA, FARIDPUR: A young man drowned in a canal in Bhanga Upazila of the district on Sunday. 

The deceased was identified as Rana Farazi, 30, son of Sirajul Farazi, a resident of Nakpara Sadardi Village under the upazila. 

Local and the deceased's family sources said that Rana Farazi set up a trap in a canal in the area on Saturday evening to catch fishes. On Sunday morning, he fell in the canal and went missing there while checking into the fishing trap. 

Sensing the matter, the family members started searching for him, but could not locate him immediately.

Later on, locals spotted his body floating in the canal and took him to Bhanga Upazila Health Health Complex, the on-duty doctor declared the youth dead.

The deceased's family members claimed that Rana Farazi was an epilepsy patient. Due to this, he might have drowned in the canal, they added.

SHERPUR: Two minor boys drowned in a pond in Sadar Upazila of the district on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Mahin Mia, 6, son of Sultan Mia, and Junayed Hossain, 5, son of Manowar Hossain. Both of them were residents of Andharia Nijpara area in the upazila.

According to local sources, Mahin and Junayed went out of their respective houses to play in the afternoon, but did not return. Later on, their bodies were found floating a pond next to the houses in the evening.

Locals then recovered their bodies from the pond. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sherpur Sadar Police Station (PS) Jobaidul Islam confirmed the incident.

DAULATPUR, KUSHTIA: Two minor children drowned in a pond in Daulatpur Upazila of the district on Saturday afternoon.
 
The incident took place in Harinagachhi Village under Rifaitpur Union of the upazila at around 5 pm. 

The deceased were identified as Nur Amin, 5, son of Khoda Box, and Fatima, 4, daughter of Mizar Ali. They were cousins in relation and residents of the aforesaid area. 

Local sources said that the duos were playing on the bank of a pond next to their houses in the afternoon. When the family members sensed their absence, they began to search for them. Later on, they found the children floating in the pond and rushed them to a local hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared the two dead.

Rifaitpur Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Mannan Rana confirmed the incident.

RAJSHAHI: A teenage boy drowned in a pond in Tanore Upazila of the district on Friday.

The incident took place in Sadipur Village of the upazila in the morning.

The deceased was identified as Bakul Hossain, 16, son of late Mustafa Ali, a resident of the aforesaid area.

It was known that Bakul was swimming in a pond in the area in the morning. At one stage, he drowned there.

Later on, his body was recovered from the pond. 

Tanore PS OC Mizanur Rahman confirmed incident, adding that an unnatural death case was filed with the PS in this connection.
