NATORE, Nov 3: Anti-polythene bag drive was conducted in the district on Friday to stop its use and sale in order to protect the environment from harming.
A mobile court was conducted in Nichabazar area in the town.
Five traders were fined Tk 3,000 while 15 kilogram polythene bags were seized from them.
The local office of the environment directorate conducted the drive. At that time, Md Rafiqul Islam, assistant director of the directorate was present, along with police and army members.
Istiaq Ahmed, executive magistrate of the District administration, fined the traders for selling the polythene bags openly in the market.
Md Masudur Rahaman, district magistrate and acting deputy commissioner (DC) of Natore, said, he directed all UNOs of the seven upazilas of the district to conduct mobile court in this regard. Accordingly, the action was taken, the DC added.
On the same day, DC Masudur Rahaman inaugurated the Baniakole Canal cleansing drive, six kilometre away from Chhatni Union to South Borogachha in the district town, in order to save the environment.
Among others, Rafiqul Alom Chowdhury, executive engineer of Water Development Board- Natore, Rabiul Haque, executive officer of Natore Municipality and Sheikh Obaidullah, local leader of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, were present.
