Man shot to death by 'robbers' in Cox's Bazar

A man was shot to death reportedly by a group of robbers at Maheshkhali upazila in Cox's Bazar district on Sunday.

The incident took place at 3.30 AM at Shaitmara Pattachari Fish Project area under Shaplapur union of the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Monir Ahmed, 50, son of Abdur Rahman and a resident of the same area.

According to locals, Monir was a share holder of a shrimp enclosure and worked as caretaker of the waterbody.

Eyewitness and a labour of the enclosure, Zafar Alam said that a group of robbers were fishing in enclosure illegally on Saturday midnight. Around 3.30 AM, they attacked Monir and shot him multiple rounds of bullets when he intervented, leaving him critically injured.

Locals rescued him and took him to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex where the attending doctors declared him dead.

Confirming the incident, Maheshkhali Police Station officer-in-charge Kaiser Hamid said they have recovered the body and sent it to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

There was multiple symbols of bullet injuries in the body, however, the actual reason behind the death will be known after autopsy and the motive behind the killing will be known after investigation, added the OC.
