Bangladesh women's football team captain Sabina Khatun and star winger Ritu Porna Chakma have attracted international interest, with top North Macedonian club Brera Tiverija extending an offer for the two players.
Brera Tiverija currently lead the North Macedonian Women's League and are keen to bolster their lineup with the skilled Bangladeshi duo starting in January.
Speaking at Bangladesh Football Federation House on Saturday, Sabina shared the news, adding, "We received an offer, but nothing is finalized yet. There may be visa complications." Initially, Brera Tiverija had shown interest in signing four players but later focused on Sabina and Ritu Porna.
This offer marks another milestone for Sabina, the first Bangladeshi woman footballer to play internationally, who debuted in the Indian Women's League with Sethu FC in 2018 and most recently featured for Kickstart FC. Both she and Ritu Porna, along with Maria Manda and Monika Chakma, represented Royal Thimphu College SC at the inaugural AFC Women's Club Championship in Bhutan this August.
Brera Tiverija, currently fielding two foreign players — Goya Tcheury Harumi from Brazil and Cashlin Copley Jane from the USA — aims to strengthen its roster further as it vies for a spot in the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage.
Sabina, celebrated for her stellar 2022 SAFF Championship performance, was named top scorer and best player, while Ritu Porna recently earned the best player accolade in the 2024 SAFF Championship, where Bangladesh emerged as unbeaten champions for the second consecutive tournament.
