A Rangpur court handed down death penalties on two accused and life-term prison sentence to another accused for double murder at Taherpur in Pirganj of the district.
On early Sunday (November 3) afternoon, Rangpur Senior District and Sessions Judge Court's judge Fazle Khoda Md Nazir pronounced the judgement in Rafiqul Islam and Abdur Razzak Mondol murder case.
Rangpur Judge Court's public prosecutor Aftab Uddin said on July 18, 2018, Rafiqul Islam, 45, and Abdur Razzak Mondol, 40, were killed in a clash at Mozila Taherpur area under Pirganj upazila in sequel to a clash over agricultural land. After a case was filed, the investigation officer (IO) submitted chargesheet against three accused investigating the case.
He said the court handed down death sentence on accused Abdur Rashid alias Nannu Mondol and Harun Mondol, while life-term jail sentence to Md Akmal Hossain, 40, recording the depositions of the witnesses and cross examining the accused. All the convicts were present at the hazatkhana of the court during the pronouncement of the verdict.
