Five more persons have been detained over torching of two vehicles belonging to the Bangladesh Army and police that escalated into violence at Mirpur-14 and Kachukhet areas in the capital.

They were detained from Kachukhet and Mirpur-14 under Kafrul and Bhashantek Police Stations, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate of the Bangladesh Armed Forces on Sunday.

With them, so far, eight persons were detained by the army in connection with the vandalism and torching vehicles in the mentioned areas on October 31.
Earlier three people-- Rifat, Hridoy and Yasin--have been detained by army personnel, ISPR press release confirmed on Friday night.

A case was filed with Kafrul Police Station on Friday (November 1) where around 400-500 unnamed readymade garment (RMG) workers have been made accused.

The unrest began around 9AM on Thursday when workers from Centex Fashion Limited and nearby factories took to the street in response to Mousumi Garments’ sudden shutdown the night before, after a series of confrontations.

Police and army personnel were deployed there. At one stage, the workers started throwing bricks and stones, prompting police to charge batons  on them. Amid the chaos, witnesses reported that workers vandalised and set two vehicles ablaze.
