CHATTOGRAM,  Nov 2: Dr Shahadat Hussain, former Convenor of Chattogram City unit of BNP and Mayor nominee of Chattogram City Corporation will take oath as Mayor on Sunday.

LGRD and Cooperative Adviser AF Hasan Arif will administer the oath of office to Shahadat Hussain at the conference room of LGRD division at around 11:30pm.
Senior leaders of BNP will attend the oath-taking ceremony of Shahadat as Mayor of the Port City.
Earlier, the Election Commission announced BNP candidate Shahadat Hossain as Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation, following the verdict issued by the port city's electoral tribunal.

The EC Secretariat issued a gazette notification replacing Awami League-backed former mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury with him.

The gazette has been issued upon the legal opinion taken from the Law Ministry. There is an obligation to carry out the court order as the commission is non-existent now. The Ministry gave its opinion taking this into consideration and in this case, the EC Secretariat issued the gazette notification.

Meanwhile, the Election Tribunal in Chattogram declared former BNP city unit president Dr Shahadat Hossain as the Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) after three and a half years of the Election.

The court gave the verdict in a case filed by him seeking cancellation of 2021 election results against nine persons including Rezaul Karim Chowdhury.

Election Tribunal Judge and Joint District and Session Judge Mohammad Khairul Amin delivered the verdict on October 1.
