BARISHAL, Nov 2: Unabated electricity load-shedding is vitiating life in Barishal region and adjoining areas.

This load-shedding has been created due to shortage of power supply by the national, which is half of the demand.

In addition to the public life, businesses and industrial production in hampered seriously.

This electricity crisis has been continuing across entire Barishal region for the last several days, causing immense public sufferings.

According to field sources, the load-shedding started on Tuesday noon and continued till 2:30 pm on Wednesday. But after Wednesday morning, the electricity appeared. But at about 12pm, it went out again.

Temperature has increased in Barishal to 34 degree Celsius, three degree Celsius higher than normal.

The electricity demand in the Barishal region under Western Electricity Distribution Company (WEDCO) and six associations of Palli Bidyut is about 800 megawatt (mw) for about 10,000 subscribers. But against this demand, national grid cannot supply over 450mw. This situation has been continuing for the last three days.

Yet, 2,500mw electricity is being supplied to the national grid from Power Development Board (PDB) and several private companies.

According to sources at the PDB, the huge electricity deficit is continuing because of suspension of few units for repairing and maintenance as well as production suspension in some diesel-run units.

It is still uncertain when these units will resume production.
