The Bangladesh cricket team departed for the United Arab Emirates on Saturday to play a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan.

The players are traveling in two groups. The first group left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on an Emirates flight at 6:00 pm (BST) on Saturday, while the players who participated in the recently concluded Test in Chattogram and the coaching staff, will depart today.

Earlier, the BCB announced a 15-member squad on November 1 featuring some notable changes. Shakib Al Hasan and Liton Das were excluded from the squad. Additionally, Anamul Haque Bijoy, Taijul Islam and Hasan Mahmud, who were part of the ODI series against Sri Lanka last March, were also left out. Pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who was included in the first two matches of that series, is sidelined for the Afghanistan series due to a shoulder injury.

The most surprising inclusions in the squad were Soumya Sarkar and Zakir Hasan. Soumya, who has been out of form for a long time and hadn't shown any outstanding performances recently, has nonetheless received a national call-up. Zakir, usually seen in red-ball games and struggling with the bat in the last three series, has also been included. Besides, left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed, who was dropped after the 2023 World Cup, has returned to the team. Young pacer Nahid Rana, following his Test debut, has been called up to the ODI team for the first time.

Nazmul Hossain Shanto, who recently announced his resignation from captaincy in all formats, will lead Bangladesh in this series.

The series opener will be on November 6, followed by the second match on November 9 and the final match on November 11. All three games are set to be held in Sharjah.

Bangladesh Squad:
Soumya Sarkar, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Zakir Hasan, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, Tawhid Hridoy, Zaker Ali Anik, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rishad Hossain, Nasum Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed, Shariful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman and Nahid Rana.
