Fishermen are taking preparation to resume hilsa fishing as the 22-day ban on catching, selling, and transporting the national fish will end on Sunday (November 3).

To ensure the safe spawning of the national fish of Bangladesh during its peak breeding period, the government imposed the ban from October 13 midnight.

The fishermen are now busy preparing nets and boats to go to the rivers to catch hilsa fish in different parts of the country.
Meanwhile, the government had allocated more than 14,164 tonnes of rice for over 5.66 lakh fishermen families of 155 upazilas in 37 districts aiming to meet food scarcity during a 22-day government fishing restrictions period.

Each fisherman was given 25 kgs of rice under the VGF scheme during the ban.
