Police arrested two persons in Uttara on Friday night for their alleged involvement in the murder of a protester during the recent student movement.
The arrestees were Md Harez Uddin, 42, an Awami League activist and Mahiyanul Haque Orchi, 27, BCL president Uttara Ward No. 1.
Muhammad Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (DC-media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said law enforcers arrested Harez at around 8.40 PM and Mahianul at around 3.40AM from Uttara Sector 11.
He said police arrested them after analyzing intelligence information and CCTV footage around the spot. The arrestees have been sent to the learned court.
According to the case statement, on August 5, 2024, the protesting students and public were staying in the Rabindra Sarani area of Sector 3, Uttara.
Leaders and activists of different front organisations of Awami League attacked the anti-discrimination students and people. Lablu Mia, one of the protesters, was shot in the head.
He was taken to Uttara Crescent Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
On August 22, 2024, a murder case has been filed with Uttara West Police Station in this connection.
