Jatiya Party (JaPa) has temporarily postponed its rally and protest procession scheduled for Saturday.
The announcement came on Friday night via a press release from the party.
According to the statement, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) invoked Section 29 of the Metropolitan Police Ordinance to prohibit any gathering, rally, procession, or demonstration around Pioneer Road, Kakrail, and adjacent areas.
In adherence to the law, Jatiya Party decided to temporarily halt the rally and protest procession. The party will announce its next steps in due course.
Previously, Jatiya Party had planned the rally and procession for Saturday at 2 PM in Kakrail, intending to protest rising commodity prices and to demand the withdrawal of alleged false cases against its leaders, including the chairman and secretary-general.
On the same day, an anti-fascist student group had announced a counter-resistance program in front of the Jatiya Party headquarters. In light of the potential for unrest, the DMP imposed restrictions on gatherings in the Kakrail area.
