Sedition case filed against ISKCON leader, 18 others for disrespecting national flag in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 1: The Bangladesh Sanatan Jagaran Mancha held a rally at Cheragi Pahar area on Friday afternoon despite obstructions by the law enforcers. 

The platform organized the rally protesting the filing of a sedition case against 19 people of the Mancha.

The members of law enforcing agency with armed forces obstructed them from holding the rally without permission.

Police said, there was no permission for holding a rally at Cheragi Pahar and Jamalkhan areas. So they had tried to refrain them from holding the rally.

Meanwhile a sedition case has been filed against 19 people including Chandan Kumar Dhar alias Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, Organizing Secretary of Chattogram Division of ISKCON, on the charge of disrespecting the national flag at the 'Swadhinata Stambha' at city's New Market intersection area on Wednesday night.

Feroz Khan, a resident of city's Mohra area under Chandgaon thana filed the case with Kotwali Police Station in the city.
Police detained two youths last night on charges of insulting the national flag.

Besides Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, the other accused in the case are Ajay Dutta, 34, Leela Raj Das Brahmachari, 48, Gopal Das Tipu, 38, Kathak Das, 40, Engr Amit Dhar,38, Roni Das, 38, Rajiv Das, 32, Krishna Kumar Dutt, 52, Jiku Chowdhury, 40, Newton Dey, 38, Tushar Chakraborty, 28, Mithun Dey, 35, Rupon Dhar, 35, Rimon Dutt, 28, Sukant Das, 28, Biswajit Gupta, 42, Rajesh Chowdhury, 28 and Hriday Das 25.

Among them, Rajesh and Hridoy were detained in the Sadarghat area by police on that night.

According to the statement of the case, a group of youths reportedly installed a saffron-coloured flag over the Bangladeshi flag on the Independence Pillar at Zero Point, in city's New Market Junction during a rally organized by the Hindu community under the banner "Sanatan Jagaran Mancha" on October 25.

The images of the saffron-coloured flag over the national flag went viral on social media, sparking criticism from various groups.

Fazlul Quader Chowdhury, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station, said.

A sedition case has been filed with Kotwali Police Station on Wednesday night for disrespecting the national flag hung on the Independence Pillar at Zero Point, in city's New Market Junction during a rally.

After seeing the video footage, two of the accused were identified and arrested from Sadarghat area of the city.

Meanwhile, protesting the case, Chattogram Division of ISKCON organized a protest rally at city's Charagi crossing area and issued an  ultimatum to withdraw the sedition case within next four days otherwise they will go for tougher programme on the issue.

Meanwhile, BNP expelled Feroz Khan, General Secretary of Mohra Ward committee for filing a sedition case against the Sanatan Jagaran Mancha.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Sanatan Jagaran Mancha is now in a movement to press home their eight-point demand.
