Human chain protests attack on IU student

Islamic University (IU) students on Friday staged a human chain at the main entrance of the campus, protesting an attack on a student on Thursday night.

The human chain demanded justice and assure punishment of the miscreants, under the banner of ‘anti-discrimination student movement’ around 4:30 pm on Friday.
The incident took place on Thursday night at Arappur area Jhenaidah district while he was returning home from tution.

The victim, Mashiur Rahman, is a student of the Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Department under 2018-19 academic session and a resident of university Lalon Shah Hall, is undergoing treatment at Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital.

 Nur Uddin, a friend of the victim, said that Mashiur was waiting for bus after finishing his tuition around 7:30 PM on Thursday at Arappur in Jhenaidah. At that time, a clash broke out between two local groups when one of the groups attacked Mashiur with sharp weapons. 

He was critically injured, rescued by a passerby, and taken to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment.  

"We strongly condemn this sudden attack on our friend and demand that the attackers to be brought to justice immediately," said the protesters.
 
Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Abdullah Al Mamun said that they were informed about the incident.

However, no complaint has been filed at the police station yet. Legal action will be taken if a complaint is filed, added the OC.
