Bangladesh women's national football team returned to Dhaka in the afternoon on Thursday with the second consecutive trophy of the SAFF Women's Championship. The women rode an open top bus, cheered with the trophy and responded to the fans on their way to the BFF House in Motijheel.

The bus was specially prepared for their triumphant return to their base at the BFF House. A crowd of eager people gathered outside the airport to welcome the Bangladesh team. The people were showing their appreciation all the way and the women too were responding with smiles, waving hands and showing the trophy.

Earlier, the women in red and green outfits kept the title of the tournament with a 2-1 hard-fought victory over the host Nepal in the final at Dasharath Rangasala in Kathmandu, Nepal on Wednesday. Before that, the Bangladesh women defeated the same opponents in the final of the SAFF Women's Championship 2022 and became champions of the tournament for the first time.

Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus will accord a reception to the SAFF Championship-winning Bangladesh women's football team on Saturday. The reception will take place at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka, the Chief Adviser's press wing said on Thursday.

Previously on Wednesday, after the women clinch the trophy for the second consecutive time, CA Dr Muhammad Yunus congratulated the Bangladesh national women's football team on their success. In a statement, he said, "It was a great achievement of our women's football team. I am proud of you. The whole nation is proud of you. Congratulations to all the players who brought us this glory."

In the meantime, Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, the Adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, announced a cash prize of Taka 10,000,000 for the SAFF-winning team after greeting them at the BFF House in the evening.

After reaching the homeland on Thursday afternoon, the members of Bangladesh women's national football team received a warm welcome at the airport from the officials and people who had been waiting with flowers and sweets.

There, team skipper Sabina Khatun said, "I want to thank the people of tea country for their support. They were waiting for this win for a longtime. Winning people's hearts, we as well as our officials are very happy. I want to especially thank former president Kazi Salahuddin, current President Tabith Awal, women's committee chairperson Mahfuza Akter Kiron and the newly-elected committee for being with us. Their support had helped us a lot."

The girls have received hundreds and thousands of warm wishes after winning the match on Wednesday and they could not sleep at night over the excitement. People from all walks of life, from the Chief Adviser to the general football fans, all praised and wished them in their ways.

The sportspersons including the current and former cricketers also congratulated them on their successive victories. Especially the cricketers were moved by the women's success.
