A minor girl and a fisherman drowned in separate incidents in two districts - Bhola and Barishal, in three days.
LALMOHAN, BHOLA: A minor child drowned in a pond in Lalmohan Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The incident took place in Ward No. 4 Nayanigram area under Lalmohan Municipality in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Fahmida Akter, 3, daughter of Md Shahabuddin Nirob, a resident of the area.
According to the deceased's family members, Fahmida was playing along with other children on the bank of a pond next to the house in the morning. At one stage, she fell in the pond while trying to pick up a ball from there.
Sensing her absence, the family members then started searching for her and found her body floating in the pond.
Later on, she was rescued from there and taken to Lalmohan Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty physicians declared her dead.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lalmohan Police Station (PS) Md Sirajul Islam said that no one informed the matter to police.
BARISHAL: A fisherman drowned in the Meghna River while catching Hilsa in Hizla Upazila of the district on Monday.
The incident took place in Baushia area of the river under the upazila at around 5:30 am.
The deceased was identified as Noyon Bepari, 62, a resident of Baushia area under Borojalia Union in the upazila.
It was known that Noyon Bepari along with his son Farid Bepari was catching Hilsa riding on a trawler in the Meghna River defying the fishing ban at dawn. At one stage, Noyon fell from the trawler accidentally.
He was then rescued and taken to Hizla Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Hizla PS OC Md Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the incident.
