Gazette issued forming 6-member search committee for new EC

The interim government on Thursday published a gazette of the six-member search committee to propose names of the individuals eligible for constituting the next Election Commission (EC).

Cabinet Secretary Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid signed the gazette.

Headed by Judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, other members of the search committee are Justice AKM Asaduzzaman, a judge of the High Court Division; Dhaka University International Relations Department's former teacher Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, former PSC chairman Prof Zeenatun Nesa Tahmida Begum, Chairman of Public Service Commission (PSC) Mobasser Momen and Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Md Nurul Islam.

In accordance with the Section 3 of the Election Commission Appointment Act 2022, the search committee will recommend the names of the individuals for appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and three Election Commissioners.  

Cabinet Division will give secretarial support to the search committee.
