Two brothers were beaten to death by angry locals on suspicions of robbery on Wednesday night in Chapainawabganj's Bholahat upazila.
The incident took place at around 9 pm in Khapanir Bill area on the Bholahat-Rohanpur road under Jambaria union of the upazila.
The dead were identified as Yakub Ali, 22, and Alamgir, 25, sons of Habibur Rahman, hailed from Mannumor area of the upazila.
According to locals, riding a van, some villagers were returning to Bholahat from Rohanpur at night. At that time, a gang of robbers snatched ornaments and cash from them. At one stage, hearing their screaming, local people rushed to the spot and caught two suspected robbers. Later, the two were beaten to death on the spot.
Bholahat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahinur Rahman said two robbers beaten to death while fleeing after robbery.
He also said that on information, the police recovered the bodies from the spot. The bodies were sent to morgue for autopsy. Legal action is under process in the incident.
