An open-top bus is being prepared to welcome home the Bangladesh women’s football team after their historic 2-1 victory over Nepal in Kathmandu, securing the SAFF Women's Championship title for the second consecutive time.
The idea for an open-top bus parade was first proposed by player Sanjida Akter in a heartfelt Facebook post after a previous tournament. In response, former state minister Zahid Ahsan Rasel arranged for the BRTC to organize such a welcome to honor the champions.
Fahad Karim, the newly elected vice president of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), emphasized that an open-top bus parade is a global symbol of celebration for champions. "It shows the nation's love and pride for its champions," he said after the final match.
Under the new BFF executive committee, led by Tabith Awal, plans have been set in motion, and the BRTC has been contacted to make the arrangements. The bus will be specially branded to celebrate the team, and all preparations are expected to be completed before the team’s arrival at Shahjalal International Airport at 2:15 PM on Thuursday.
