Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized six gold bars valued at nearly Tk one crore from Hudapara road near Damurhuda border area in Chuadanga on Wednesday.
The operation took place on Wednesday (October 30) at approximately 2 PM, as confirmed in a press briefing by BGB-6 Battalion in Chuadanga at 6 PM.
According to the briefing, BGB patrol commander Majnul Karim received a tip-off and positioned himself in Hudapara area. While there, he observed an individual attempting to quickly cross the border on a motorcycle. When challenged by the BGB, the smuggler abandoned the motorcycle and fled the scene.
Subsequently, the BGB searched the motorcycle and discovered six gold bars, weighing a total of 870 grams, hidden inside the motorcycle's silencer, wrapped in tape. The estimated value of the seized gold is approximately Tk one crore.
Lieutenant Colonel Saeed Mohammad Jahidur Rahman, commander of the BGB-6 Battalion, stated that the confiscated gold has been sent to the Chuadanga treasury. A case is currently being prepared to be lodged at Damurhuda police station.
