Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana on Wednesday said news based on objective and correct information can prevent rumour and false news.
"The nation will get benefit from journalists if they can present objective and correct news through fact checking," she said while addressing a workshop on 'Mass media in building discrimination free new Bangladesh: false information, rumour and fact checking' at the National Institute of Mass Communication (NIMCO) in the city.
Speaking as chief guest Mahbuba Farjana urged journalists to present correct information while publishing news in their media outlets.
NIMCO director general Sufi Zakir Hossain, director Dr Md Maruf Nawaz, DRU president Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo, daily Manabzamin chief news editor Sajedul Haque, DRU information and training secretary Rashim Mollah spoke at workshop, among others.
The information and broadcasting secretary said huge false and misleading information is being posted on the social media.
At the outset of her speech, she remembered the martyrs of the anti-discrimination movement and urged all to take the country forward for the welfare of the people.
Later, Mahbuba Farjana inaugurated the day long workshop. Some 50 journalists from various media outlets, who are members of Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) took part in the workshop, organized by NIMCO. —BSS
