Bangladesh star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is available for selection in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, set to be held in the UAE beginning November 6.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Faruque Ahmed confirmed Shakib's availability ahead of a key board meeting on Wednesday.
"Shakib is available for selection in the ODI series against Afghanistan," Ahmed told the media, clarifying the uncertainty around Shakib's participation. "The squad hasn't been announced yet, which means he's available."
Shakib recently hinted at stepping away from Test cricket following the series against South Africa. Although the BCB initially factored him into the lineup, security concerns delayed his return, prompting the board to adjust the squad without him.
During the India tour, Shakib had publicly stated his plans to retire from Test and T20 formats, indicating that his ODI career would also conclude in the coming years. His target is to retire after the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan, leaving fans speculating on his eventual timeline.
The upcoming series opener against Afghanistan is scheduled for November 6 in Sharjah, with the following matches on November 9 and 11 at the same venue. The BCB's ongoing discussions are likely to address Shakib's broader career trajectory and clarify his role in the Bangladesh team leading up to the Champions Trophy.
