Prof Mamun Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) of Dhaka University (DU), stated on Monday that the sacrifice of the young generation in July and August of this year has opened a new democratic window for Bangladesh.
He made the remarks at a special seminar on 'From Uprising to Revolution: The Roads Ahead for Bangladesh' hosted by the university's Political Science Department at Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium on the campus.
"The Quota Reform Movement began to establish equality in the society. The movement eventually turned into the fall of the fascists," said Prof Mamun, calling for national consensus to thwart rise of the fascists again.
Bangladesh Open University Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dil Rowshan Zinnat Ara Nazneen spoke at the event as special guest with Political Science Department Chairperson Prof Nasima Khatun in the chair.
Associate Prof Md Saidul Islam of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore presented the keynote speech.
