South Africa finished the first day of the second and final Test of the two-match series against hosts Bangladesh at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram with a commanding score of 307 runs for two wickets on Tuesday.

Bangladesh made three changes to their XI. Liton Das missed out due to illness, Jaker Ali was sidelined due to injury and spinner Nayeem Hasan was dropped. Mahidul Islam Ankon made his debut, while Zakir Hasan and Nahid Rana returned to the lineup.

This left Bangladesh with three openers and two pacers on a spin-friendly pitch. South Africa on the other hand made two changes as well, with Senuran Muthusamy and Dane Paterson replacing Dane Piedt and Matthew Breetzke.

After winning the toss, South Africa chose to bat first and quickly established dominance over the Bangladeshi bowlers. They reached lunch with 109 runs for one wicket and went into tea with 205 for one. Captain Aiden Markram and Tony de Zorzi gave the visitors a solid start adding 69 runs before Markram was dismissed for 33.

Zorzi then forged a powerful 201-run partnership with Tristan Stubbs for the second wicket. Stubbs scored his maiden Test century before departing for 106 runs off 198 balls with six fours and three sixes. Zorzi on the contrary, remained unbeaten on 141 at the close having faced 211 balls and struck 10 fours and three sixes. Zorzi was given two lifelines by the Bangladeshi fielders-wicketkeeper Ankon dropped him on six and later, he survived a missed run-out chance at 107.

David Bedingham remained not out on 18 as play ended early due to bad light, with nine overs left in the day.

Both of South Africa's wickets were claimed by Taijul Islam for Bangladesh.
