Two assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) of police went missing in the river Padma at Kumarkhali in Kushtia following a attack on them by fishermen.
Divers and Fire Service personnel recovered the body of ASI Sadrul Hasan from the river Padma one day after he went missing.
Kumarkhali Police Station office-in-charge (OC) Nazrul Islam confirmed the matter.
His body was recovered at about 3:00pm on Tuesday (October 29) from Shilaidaha area under Kumarkhali upazila. Another ASI named Mukul Hossain also went missing in connection with the incident. Divers are also conducting searches for him. Police personnel were present at the spot when the rescue operation was conducted.
Earlier on Sunday midnight, incident of attack on police happened at Ber Kaloa area under Koya union of the upazila. Apart from missing of two ASIs, another police personnel and two union parishad members were also injured.
Locals and fishermen said fishermen were catching fish illegally using current net at Ber Kaloa area of the river Padma. At that time, two ASIs went missing when a boat carrying them turned-turtle and sank in the river.
