A housewife was allegedly hacked to death by miscreants in Gazipur's Sreepur on Monday night.
The incident took place in Kamarpatti area of Barmi Bazar under Barmi Union of the upazila around 09:30 pm.
Police have recovered a knife used in the murder.
The victim was Smriti Rani Pal, 24, daughter of Sunil Pal of Daulatpur village under Gouripur Police Station in Mymensingh district. She used to live with her husband Kabya Sarkar and children at Kabya's maternal grandmother's house at Kamarpatti in Sreepur.
Kabya's neighbor Sumon, General Secretary of Sreepur Upazila Puja Celebration Committee, said that at around 9:30 pm, he heard a sudden scream at the house and went inside. Then he saw Smriti lying on the balcony in a bloody state. Later, she was rescued from there and first taken to a local hospital. When she was taken to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex for advanced treatment, the doctors declared her dead.
Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zainal Abedin Mondal said the body was recovered from the hospital on information. The body has been sent to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for autopsy. In the incident, two people including the victim's husband have been taken into police custody. Police are working to unravel the mystery of the murder.
