Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), during a drive, have arrested eight muggers from Mohammadpur area in the capital.
Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (media) Shihab Karim confirmed the arrest on Tuesday morning.
The arrested are Md Tamim, Md Nayeem, Md Hasan, Md Rakib, Md Liton, Md Russell, Md Limon and Md Jubayer.
They were arrested at an early hours.
Locally-made sharp weapons, including samurai swords, knives, and machetes, were seized from their possessions.
Efforts are ongoing to tackle organised crime in the area. "We acted on a tip-off, and our teams were able to disrupt their plans and prevent any potential attacks on innocent citizens," said the official.
The arrestees have been handed over to Mohammadpur Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Earlier on Monday, Bangladesh Army detained 22 more individuals from different areas of Mohammadpur for their alleged involvement in different criminal activities, including mugging, robbery and extortion.
