AL lost its right to be in politics: Jamaat Ameer

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman said on Monday, "As a political party Awami League has no ethical grounds to do politics in Bangladesh."

At a discussion and doa mahfil held by Jamaat's Dhaka South City unit at the capital's Institution of Engineers to mark the AL's  crackdown on Jamaat during its 2006 protests, he said "AL turned the country into hell for which Sheikh Hasina and her party men received their dues on August 5.

He said, "In 1996, AL sought apologies for their past misdeeds and requested the people give them one more chance to serve the country. People gave them the chance, but AL misused it and killed many people during their terms."

"It's surprising how an executive head of a state can say ten people will be killed for each of her party man was killed. How can they do politics in this country again? They don't have credibility to seek  vote. They don't have the ethical grounds," he added.

Shafiqur Rahmansaid, "Good people do not flee. Even death is preferable than to flee. Fleeing does not suit a politician. Only killers, looters and evil people flee."

He said that the interim government probably won't be able to hold all the trials.

He said that the interim government should at least begin the trials.

"And the trials have to start from October 28, when AL men killed many innocent people,"
 he added.

He said that Jamaat leaders were implicated in false cases by the AL government.

"Our people were punished on baseless accusations. The AL established a culture of raping in the country. Our girls were handed over to animals at our educational institutions.

They will have to get their dues," he said.

About enforced disappearances, he said  Sheikh Hasina encouraged this inhumane crime.

"They built Aynaghars all over the country. I was also kept in such a place. But at least I was produced before the court before going there. Many victims  did not get such chance.

Only Allah knows how many Aynaghars they had operated," said Shafiqur Rahman.
