A fugitive leader of the banned student organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has been arrested from Uttara in the capital.
Acting on a tip-off, Uttara West police arrested Fazle Rabbi Sikder conducting special drive on Saturday (October 26) night.
Police said arrested 24-year-old Fazle Rabbi is the son of Sabuj Sikder of village Sagardi under Ghatail upazila in Tangail district. He was deputy secretary of Relief and Disaster Management Affairs of Kushtia Islamic University unit of Chhatra League.
Sources in police administration said Fazle Rabbi directly took part in the attacks on general students of Kushtia Islami University during the student-led movement. Since the fall of Awami League government on August 5 last, he went into hiding at Uttara West Police Station area. Conducting raid on Saturday night, police arrested him from House No. 39, Road No. 7 at Uttara Sector 11.
Confirming about the matter, Uttara West Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Hafizur Rahman said Fazle Rabbi led attacking and assaulting students of Islamic University of Kushtia during the student movement. Legal action would be taken examining his role in the movement.
