Former home minister and BNP vice-president Air Vice Marshall (Retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury has said he appeared before court as many as 800 times in 16 years when the Awami League government was in power.
He revealed it to journalists while speaking at Court Reporters Unity (CRU) on Sunday (October 27).
Altaf Hossain said he doesn't know how many cases were filed against him. "As I was arrested during the rule of previous government, it was a day-to-day affair for me to go to court. I also went to jail many times."
"Once I was in jail for 18 months and then five months. Memories of going to jail are still in my mind. But, all the cases were false and fabricated," he said.
The former home minister said the previous Awami League government was vindictive. "We don't want to do any injustice to them on humanitarian ground as they had committed to us."
Altaf Hossain further said he wanted justice against Awami League leaders in a lawful way. "They had destroyed every single institution. They had also forgotten that bribes and corruption were also crimes."
