Two people have died of dengue, while 961 more patients been hospitalised with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease throughout Bangladesh in the past 24 hours.
The Directorate General of Health Services, or DGHS, said as many as 401 were admitted to hospital in Dhaka among the new dengue patients until Saturday morning.
In addition, 149 were hospitalised in the Dhaka Division, 44 in the Mymensingh Division, 141 in the Chattogram Division, 105 in the Khulna Division, 21 in the Rajshahi Division, five in the Sylhet Division, one in Rangpur Division and 94 in the Barishal Division.
With the new counts, the number of hospitalised dengue patients has reached 55, 663 this year. A total of 271 people died among them.
As many as 3,937 patients are currently undergoing treatment for dengue in hospitals across the country. They include 1,939 in the capital and 1,998 outside Dhaka.
The DGHS has been keeping records of dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000.
Since then, a record 321,179 dengue hospitalisations were logged in 2023. The highest 1,705 people also died of the disease that year.
