Three people, including a child, were shot during a reported gunfight between two groups at Geneva Camp in Mohammadpur of Dhaka on Saturday evening, over controlling drug business.
The injured were taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. The identities of the injured could not be known immediately.
Officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station Ali Iftekhar Hasan said the incident occurred at around 6PM. Being informed police rushed to the spot. A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) also visited the place.
He said details about the incident will be informed later.
Locals said that several groups have become active over controlling drug business and the gunfight might have been taken place over the issue.
Earlier, on October 16 and September 4 in separate gunfight two persons were killed.
Meanwhile, police said that incidents of violence and gunfights have intensified in the Geneva Camp in recent times over controlling the illegal drug peddling business.
Many of the group members have firearms looted from Mohammadpur and Adabar Police Stations during the student protests and have used those during gunfight and extortion.
