Arrested 26 students who had demonstrated entering the Secretariat are involved in the politics of newly banned student organisation Chhatra League, said the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
It was stated by the DMP in a press realease on Thursday (October 24). Earlier, they were produced before a court showing arrested in a case filed with Shahbagh Police Station.
The arrested were Zahirul Islam, 20, Faisal Hasan, 21, Raihan Hossain, 21, Rubel Ahmed, 18, Riad Mahmud, 21, Mesbaul Rahman Millat, 18, Mehedi Hasan, 18, Md Swan, 21, Imran Hossain Arman, 18, Mehedi Hasan Antar, 19, Md Sagar, 18, Md Rohan, 18, Shahriar Hossain Soad, 18, Ahad Mollah, 22, Md Sohan, 18, Md Masnun, 18, Md Nayeem, 18, Imam Hasan, 18, Md Shakil, 18, Md Selim, 18, Saklain Mushtaq, 18, Hanjalal, 22, Mashiur Rahman, 18, Md Prantik, 18, Tasim Rahman, 18 and Robin Mia, 18.
Police said some 60 to 70 unruly youths forcibly entered the Secretariat on Wednesday afternoon. They tried to create anarchy forcibly entering an important installation of the state to press home their demand of cancellation of the recently published HSC examinations' results.
DMP Media and Public Relations Department said losses amounting to Tk 3 lakh were incurred due to vandalism at an important government installation. In order to bring the situation under control, 54 people were arrested from the spot. After priliminary questioning, 28 were handed over to their guardians. There is a case filed against 26 people arrested in connection with the incident. Besides, 60 to 70 more people were made accused in the case.
After questioning the arrested persons, it was found that they were involved in the politics of Chhatra League.
