Students of the seven government colleges affiliated to Dhaka University (DU) on Wednesday blocked Science Laboratory and Nilkhet intersections for the second day demanding separation from DU and establishment of an independent university for the seven institutions.

Protesters, briefly concluding the blockade programme, gave ultimatum to the government to begin process to establish a separate university of their own by Saturday.

They warned of waging tougher movement if their demand is not met by Saturday.

They, however, will hold public rally on Thursday.

Movement coordinator Abdur Rahman, a student of Dhaka College, made the announcement at a press conference at the college's main gate at 3:00pm.

As per their prescheduled programme, students of the seven colleges started a protest march from Shaheed Minar of Dhaka College at 12:30pm and held a sit-in at the Science Laboratory intersection.

After an hour, they withdrew the blockade at the request of New Market Police Station Officer-in-Charge.
