At least ten readymade garment (RMG) workers, including four female, were injured in a clash between police and workers near Narsinghpur-Kashimpur road in Ashulia industrial area on Wednesday.

Besides, authorities of five factories --Sigma Apparels, De-sun, Susuka , GMax, Shin Shin Apparels-- declared holidays amid the unrest.

The injured including the four female workers --Halima Khatun, Babita Akhtar, Morsheda Khatun and Champa Khatun, were taken to the Ashulia Women and Children Hospital.

Among them, Halima works at Susuka Garments, and the rest at Generation Next Fashion.

HM Asaf Uddaula Rizvi, assistant manager of the hospital, said the injured workers were admitted to the hospital and claimed three of them sported ‘bullet’ wounds, although those hadn't been fully examined yet.
Police, however, denied the incident of firing on workers.

Md Sarwar Alam, superintendent of Ashulia Industrial Police-1, said that the workers of some factories have been demonstrating for the past few days demanding three-month arrears and allowances.

They gathered at Sinsin Mor area of Narsinghpur around 11AM and started pelting bricks at various factories located there. At one point, they clashed with the police.

Law enforcers dispersed the demonstrators by hurling sound grenades and tear shells, leaving several people injured.

Sarwar said when a sound grenade landed on a piece of brick somewhere and the splinters struck the protesters. Certainly the police did not fire any shots.
