The Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities have officially implemented its pre-declared policy that freshers under the academic year 2023-24 will now get a single bed from their very first day on campus, effectively abolishing the notorious 'Ganoroom' culture that has plagued the institution for years.
For years, the freshers have faced a severe accommodation crisis, mostly forced to live in overcrowded conditions with as many as 10 to 15 students in spaces designed for just four students.
This overcrowding not only compromised privacy but also created significant challenges for students trying to adapt to university life including study atmosphere.
Responding to the long-standing crisis, the university administration, led by Vice Chancellor Prof Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, has taken decisive action to ensure that each new student will have access to adequate and comfortable accommodation.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to prioritise student welfare and create a conducive educational environment.
As Jahangirnagar University takes these vital steps, the hope is that freshers will experience a smoother transition and enjoy a more positive university life from day one.
