A two-year-old girl drowned in a pond in Pirgachha upazila, Rangpur district, on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred at around 3:30 PM in the Anantaram Rajbari area of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Umme Habiban, daughter of Hasan Ali, a resident of the area.
It was learned that the girl fell into a pond near her house while playing on the bank. Later, family members spotted her floating in the pond and recovered her. She was then taken to the upazila health complex, where the on-duty doctors declared her dead.
Nure Alam Siddique, officer-in-charge of Pirgachha Police Station, confirmed the matter.
