PORSHA, NAOGAON, Oct 21: Farmers are facing disarray due to rotting disease in their Aman paddy fields in Porsha Upazila of the district.
Insecticide spraying in the affected fields is not working. Affected paddy plants are drying from root. Farmers are spraying their Aman fields in the morning.
The root rotting disease has appeared mostly at Nitpur Union.
Farmers complained, sub-assistant agriculture officer at the union does not contact them. They don't get him when necessary.
Farmers Abdur Rahim and Akkas Ali of Gogalganj Village and Abu Sofian of Shovapur Village said, the rotting disease has made wide spreading appearance in their planted Aman fields; paddy yielding may be hampered seriously.
Some farmers of Panchrai Village including Mokbul Hossain and others of Niskinpur Village at Ghatnagar Union said, some days back their paddy fields were good; the rotting disease has appeared suddenly.
Farmer Mizanur Rahman of Deulia Village at Mashidpur Union said, insecticide is not working; and sub-assistant agriculture is not found.
Upazila agriculture extension officer Abdur Razzak said, "Insecticide is the only medicine of this disease. Our sub-assistant agriculture officers are not going to fields regularly."
Upazila Agriculture Officer Mamunur Rashid said, there is complaint of misconduct against the sub-assistant agriculture in charge of Nitpuir Union.
