A Sunamganj court on Monday granted a two-day remand for former Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunamganj-5 constituency Muhibur Rahman Manik in connection with a case involving an assault on students during the Mass Movement.
Additionally, one-day remands have been granted for Awami League leaders Aftab Uddin, a former upazila chairman, and Regan, while 30 other party members will face questioning at the jail gate.
Sunamganj Speedy Trial Court judge Nirjan Kumar Mitra granted the remand request, submitted by the investigating officer, and denied bail requests from the defendants' lawyers.
Prior to this, former MP Manik and 32 other arrested individuals were presented in court under strict security measures. Manik was arrested by RAB in Dhaka on October 10.
The incident occurred on August 4 in Sunamganj town during the student protest. Following the attack, Hafiz Ahmed, brother of injured student Jahur Ahmed, filed a case on September 2 at Sunamganj Sadar Model Police Station, invoking the speedy trial act.
The case names 99 individuals, including Manik, and has led to the arrest of 34 people, including former minister M.A. Mannan.
