BARISHAL, Oct 20: In the first 17 days of October , 10 more dengue patients died in the district while over 1,000 patients are undergoing treatment in government hospitals.
According to field sources, the dengue spread has turned unpreventable, creating panic among the people. But there has been no effective step to contain it.
In this dry season, rain is washing away sprayed medicine of mosquito killing. It was told by Barishal City Corporation (BCC) and local government institutions.
In 15 days of the running month, about 1,200 dengue patients were admitted to government hospitals, and 10 ones died.
So far 28 deaths were registered in Barishal in the last few months including seven ones in September and 10 ones during 15 days of October.
Besides, several times of patients are undergoing treatment in clinics and chambers of doctors. Deaths were also recorded.
According to this estimate, dengue patients exceeded 10,000 in Barishal while deaths would be more than 50. It was informed by specialised doctors, requesting anonymity.
In September, 1,238 dengue patients were admitted to government hospitals in Barishal region. Of them seven ones died within September 10.
In 17 days of October 1,165 patients were admitted to government hospitals in Barishal, and during this time 10 died.
Numerous patients are coming to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) from Barguna, Bhola, Pirojpur and Jhalakathi districts.
Around 21 deaths were registered with SBMCH. Of the admitted patients, about 1,150 were admitted to hospitals in Barguna Sadar and other district hospitals.
Till Wednesday morning, in Barishal region, 4,042 dengue patients were admitted to government hospitals; of them 3,670 were cured and went back home.
According to sources at the Department of Health (DoH) in the divisional, if stern step is not taken to eradicate aedes mosquito, there will not be relief from that deadly disease.
Director of the Divisional DoH Shyamol Krishna Mandal said, all local institutions have been instructed to take strict steps for killing aedes mosquitoes.
