Human rights activist and lawyer ZI Khan Panna, incumbent Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui and 178 others were sued on charges of attempting to kill a student Ahadul Islam during the recent mass movement on July 19.
Md Daud Hossain, acting officer-in-charge of the police station, said that Md Baker filed the case with Khilgaon Police Station on Sunday on charge of shooting his son Ahadul during the movement. He said police will investigate the allegation.
Other accused in the case include-- former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, former home minister Asaduzzman Khan, ex-public administration minister Farhad Hossain, former joint commissioner of DMP Biplab Kumar, former IGP Abdullah Al Mamun, former DMP commissioner Habibur Rahman, former PBI Chief Banaj Kumar Majumder, former Director General of Rab Barrister Harun-or-Rashid.
According to the case documents, Ahadul participated in demonstrations in Meradia Bazar area during the student-led movement.
At one stage, police, BGB members and leaders and activists of Awami League opened fire on the public, leaving Ahadul bullet injured.
They also beat Ahadul up as he fell on the ground, according to the complaint. Later, he was taken to a local hospital.
Meanwhile, ZI Khan Panna, the chairman of Ain o Salish Kendra, was a member of the National Mass Inquiry Commission formed on July 29 to probe violations of laws, human rights and loss of lives during the student-led mass uprising.
