Muslim League to place reform proposals

KHULNA, Oct 19 - Acting President of Bangladesh Muslim League advocate Md Mohsin Rashid has said their party will place proposals for state reforms to the concerned reform commission very soon.

"We are working on preparing our proposals for state reforms and it will be handed over to the commission," he made the remarks while addressing a discussion meeting here today styled 'Constitution Reforms and Fair Election,' formed by Interim Government at Khulna Press Club banquet hall as chief guest.

Khulna City and District Units Muslim League organized the meeting.

The chief guest said, 'Our proposals comprise key changes to the parliament formation, power balance between the president and prime minister and election system."

The Muslim League will propose forming a semi-presidential government where the president would not be powerless and he would be elected through direct election, he said. 

He said that the prime minister would resign and cabinet would be dissolved before the parliament election and the president to be the chief of the caretaker government, who would conduct an election within three or four months.

Muslim League to recommend forming three councils in the constitution. One for the Muslim community and a highly qualified Muslim scholar would become its chairman whose status is to be that of deputy prime minister.

 A council for the minority communities and its chairman's status will be that a minister and the other council for the country's tribal community and its chairman's status will be a state minister's, said the party chief.

Rashid advocated for incorporating religious and moral lessons by Khatib during Jumma prayer and other religious institutions including temple and church for building a discrimination-free just society.

Criticizing for not inviting the Muslim League during the dialogue of Chief Adviser, the party chief urged the interim government to enhance government strength with more advisers after recruiting from BNP, Jamat-Islami, Muslim League and major Islamic parties.
