Better than the movies' by Lynn Painter is the best rom-com book I've read so far.I love this book so much. I've never really thought that this could be such a great book until I've read this. This is a rom-com about rom-coms.The plot twists and the tension all the time in this book is amazing in my opinion. The book also has rom-com recommendations and quotes at the beginning of every chapter!
This book is about a hopeless romantic Liz going through heartbreak as she can't get with her childhood first love and how she falls in love with her next door neighbour Wes, her energy since childhood. Wes has been annoying Liz since childhood and Liz can't stand him at all. But there are plot twists in the book and I shouldn't give spoilers here! The book is full of plot twists and drama about fake dating and relationships.
I love the male character but honestly I can't really relate to the female lead that way. Maybe because she's too much in love and too much in her own fantasy and too much in her delusions that she ignored the reality. And also I despised every single one of her decisions throughout the whole book. I feel like she's too immature. Also I didn't like the way she kept lying to her own best friend like that. I don't know if she'll keep on with her dishonestly and desperate behaviour in the future. She isn't that bad but yeah she has her flaws. I like the way she plays the piano and watches old rom-coms all the time! Well I don't like the way she keeps chasing her old childhood crush. I guess that's what everyone does when they are in love?
Wes Bennett, witty, smart, funny, sarcastic, helpful, athletic, charming and loves Liz for who she is. Yes, he is all of that. He is amazing here.
Well there are some things you need to reconsider before reading this book! If you're into dark romance and also if you're not into this kind of rom-com genre, you're probably not going to like it. This book is also quite confusing and it can be annoying for some readers. So read the book if you're into cute rom-coms and you'll enjoy more than ever prolly.
