Two leaders of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) have been arrested while attending their respective examinations at Rajshahi University.
The arrested BCL leaders are Alphi Shareen Ariyana, general secretary of Begum Rokya Hall Unit of BCL and a student of Social Work department, and Saikat Raihan, a student of the Institute of Business Administration of the university.
When the BCL leaders entered the examination hall, general students declined to appear at the exams with the BCL leaders and urged the university authorities to take necessary steps.
The students alleged that Saikat swooped on them with local weapons during the Anti-Discrimination Movement and Ariana made lists of the female students who took part in the movement, sending those lists to the Rajshahi University BCL leaders, and threatening the students.
Mahbubur Rahman, proctor of the university, said, "Police took the two BCL leaders to the police station concerned on Thursday evening. I was informed that they were accused in a case. Police will take legal action according to the case."
"Two have been brought to the police station. One of them is accused in a case. The complainant is deciding whether to file another case," said Md Abdul Malek, officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station.
He said Saikat Raihan was implicated in a case earlier, while Alphi Shareen Ariyana has been implicated in a new case.
Meanwhile, a case was filed with the police station by a JCD leader against 61 people including Saikat on October 8.
