Dengue: 8 die, 1,100 more hospitalised

Eight people have died of dengue, while 1,100 more patients have been hospitalised with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease throughout Bangladesh in the past 24 hours.

The Directorate General of Health Services, or DGHS, said as many as 419 were admitted to hospital in Dhaka among the new dengue patients until Thursday morning.

In addition, 167 were hospitalised in the Dhaka Division, 32 in the Mymensingh Division, 148 in the Chattogram Division, 143 in the Khulna Division, 40 in the Rajshahi Division, 26 in Rangpur Division, 4 in the Sylhet Division, and 121 in the Barishal Division.

With the new counts, the number of hospitalised dengue patients has reached 47,050 this year. A total of 234 people died among them. The DGHS has been keeping records of dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000.
