Jamalpur journo killed in road accident

A local journalist was killed in a road accident at Melandah upazila in Jamalpur on Wednesday. 

The accident occurred around 2 PM at Shahjadpur Mor on the Jamalpur-Dewanganj regional highway.
Deceased Kurban Ali, 62, was the son of Abdul Kader Mia from Bir Hatija village in the upazila. He was a correspondent for Dainik Praner Bangladesh in Islampur area and a former senior vice president of Islampur Press Club.

According to family and local sources, Kurban Ali had stopped his motorcycle at Shahjadpur Khanbari Mor to answer a phone call when the Mahindra vehicle, traveling from Islampur to Jamalpur, struck him. He was critically injured.

Locals immediately rushed him to the Melandaha Upazila Health Complex, where the attending doctor declared him dead.

Dr. Moushumi Akter, a medical officer at the emergency department, confirmed that Kurban Ali was brought to the hospital dead.

Melandah Police Station officer-in-charge Masuduzzaman confirmed the incident, adding that the driver fled the scene immediately and efforts to identify them are ongoing.
